Strathdee Properties Ltd is owned by Stephen and Freda Strathdee.
Stephen originates from Glenrinnes and is from a farming family. His family history dates back 400 years in this area. On leaving school Stephen served his time locally as a joiner. In 1970 he started his own building company with his brother John in Dufftown, having borrowed £200 from the Clydesdale Bank in Dufftown. In 1975 he set-up SM & FA Strathdee in partnership with his wife Freda and in 1983 Glenmore Properties Ltd was established by Stephen and Freda. The family moved to Viewfield Farm, Craigellachie, in December 1987, where the companies are now based. In May 2010 the name of Glenmore Properties Ltd was changed to Strathdee Properties Ltd to reflect the family name and the fact it is a family owned and run business. Their son Gavin, who also served his time with the company as a joiner, is now Managing Director of Strathdee Properties Ltd and he personally deals with all site sales and the day to day running of the business. Their daughter Diane is a Director and works in the office.
Stephen explains: “In 1985 we bought our first farm at Viewfield, Craigellachie, and between the companies we have now built up a portfolio of farms which we own and farm throughout Moray. We also own industrial properties which we rent out and a quarry as well as a substantial amount of forestry and development land throughout these regions, mainly in the countryside.
Up to the mid-1990’s we were extensively involved in the building of new houses and renovations but since that time we have concentrated on developing sites and selling them mainly to individuals to build their own home. The majority of the sites are prime sites in the beautiful countryside of Moray ”.
